My 5 Favorite Tips for Midweek Motivation
1. Start small (or tiny if that’s what works right now).
If a task or project seems too big or daunting to you then make it easier on yourself and easier to get started with by breaking it down into smaller steps.
Steps that take only 5-10 minutes each to complete and that feel very manageable to you.
Then get started on that first step to start moving forward.
This simple habit has saved me more times than I can count from getting lost in procrastination and I find that if I just get started with one small step my motivation to keep going quickly reignites and that makes the next few steps easier to take and make them feel more fun to do too.
And if breaking a task down into such small steps still lands me in procrastinating then I break the task down into tiny steps. Steps that only take 1-2 minutes to get to done.
And then I do that first tiny step. The important thing is to get started no matter how you actually do that.
2. Remind yourself of the most important whys.
The next time when your motivation is low and just want to stay in bed, hang out on the couch or procrastinate at work or in school by scrolling some social media then you’ll be glad if you did this today:
Take a couple of minutes and write down your top 3 reasons for why you’re doing this work at your job, in school or in your business.
Then put that physical note where you cannot avoid seeing it the next time you have a motivational slump. Like for instance in your work space, on your bedside table or on your bathroom mirror.
This will get you back on track and give you a motivational boost when you need it the most.
3. Play music.
This is one of the easiest ways to boost my motivation. I take just a 10 minute break and play some upbeat music that inspires me and refuels my motivation.
Or if I am doing some tasks that are easier and simpler than writing then I may listen to music while doing those tasks to get a similar boost.
But I do find that the combo of taking a break to recharge while listening to that music works the best to renew myself and to find a more motivated point of view again.
4. Let motivation from others flow into your mind and body.
This is another easy one that quickly helps to renew motivation.
Let the motivation, enthusiasm and positive energy from other people flow into your mind.
I often do that nowadays by reading a chapter or two in an inspiring book or by watching uplifting videos on Youtube for 10-20 minutes. Or by talking to someone that has a lot of positive energy.
5. Make it a friendly competition.
If you’ve got a boring task to do then a friendly competition can be a simple way to boost motivation and get the task all the way to done.
You can make it into a competition with a friend, co-worker or family member and if you like to add a small price get some extra motivation for the two of you like for example a free ice cream or a can of soda for the person that wins.
Or you can compete with yourself. See if you can do a task faster than the last time you did it – while still doing a good job – to get some motivation flowing. I sometimes like to add a small price for myself in this situation too to add a bit of additional motivation.
