78 Inspiring Love Quotes

Today is Valentine’s Day.

So I would like to share thoughts about love from the people who have walked this earth before us (and from a few who are still here).

Timeless thoughts written down and spread throughout the decades, centuries and, yes, even millenniums.

Thoughts not only about happy, romantic love but also the love between friends and family. And about the love that is often neglected or pushed to the side: the love you have for yourself.

This is 78 of the most inspiring, touching, thought-provoking and helpful quotes on love.

  • “To say ‘I love you’ one must first know how to say the ‘I.’ ? Ayn Rand

  • Sunshine

Number 15 is my favourite. I’ve loved someone so much and when I realized they didn’t love me, though it hurt I let them go. Within weeks he was with someone he actually wanted to be with.

  • Chom caleb

    U r d man.tnx 4 every tin.i love you

  • Lynne

All of these quotes are amazing and they’re all by amazing people.
    My favorites are:
“You know it’s love when all you want is that person to be happy, even if you’re not part of their happiness.”
    — Julia Roberts
“Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.”
    — Oprah Winfrey
I like the first quote because it’s a realization that when you’re no longer the one making the other person happy, it’s best to let go so they can be happy. True love is wanting happiness for the person you love, whether it’s you making that person happy or someone else.
The second quote i really like because it is a quote that could be applied to many different situations. You want someone that is there through the good and the bad, not just when times are good.
This is a great post Henrik! Every single quote is helpful and inspiring.

All the quotes are amazing. Thanks for sharing I love all of them from amazing people but I want only to add and quote in the Bible in 1 John 4:16 l
AND WE KNOW AND BELIEVED THE LOVE THAT GOD HATH TO US. GOD IS LOVE; AND HE THAT DWELLETH IN LOVE DWELLETH IN GOD, AND GOD IN HIM.

  • Neil Prussel

Thank you for taking the time and effort ( an act of Love itself) to bring us these encouraging, affirmative quotes regarding that which ( whether we know it or not) we are all seeking in our own inimitable ways—However, I was wondering why there weren’t any biblical quotes regarding Love, which is referenced so often in poetry and prose— The Song of Solomon is one big love letter to an adored special someone . ” Perfect Love casts out fear ” is a great example. If I’m not not mistaken, 1 Corinthians: 13 is one big list of what True Love is or isn’t. It’s been read at many weddings of all denominations.
I’m not talking about evangelizing , proselytizing or ” religious ” propaganda —I’m talking about biblical references about unconditional Love that could cross over and touch the hearts and minds of anyone of any religious or non-religious persuasion—Just a thought—-Thanks for kind attention and consideration,

  • Carol Temme

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

  • Kamla Taffarello

Thank you for these beautiful words of wisdom, hope and love
