Product reviews
From time to time I write reviews of personal development products I really like and would recommend to my readers. Such reviews contain affiliate links to sales pages for the products I mention in my review.
Now I understand that you may be skeptical of buying something where I use affiliate links are get a commission for each sale. But I do get a lot of offers and products sent to me from companies (usually 5-10 each week). That’s hundreds each year. Out of all of those I only recommend and review a very select few on this website.
I do so because:
1. I get excited. Sometimes I get really excited about an idea and write an article about that. Sometimes I get excited about a bunch of awesome quotes and write an article around those. And sometimes I find a product I really like and that has helped me out in my life. So I like to tell people about it (I tell people about it not only on my blog but often also mention to friends and family, I have for example recommended Turbulence Training quite a few times now in real life). Telling someone about something that has helped me out is way of sharing value.
2. I can get discounts for my readers. Since this blog has a big readership now I can often get a discount or bonuses for my readers. It’s a nice little perk of having a popular blog.
3. I earn an income. I also do this because I am running a company here. This blog costs money to run and takes lots and lots of time and energy. And my aim is to be able to earn a full-time salary from this job. Considering the thousands of hours I have put in I feel I deserve to make money from this just like anyone who spends their time giving value to other people through their regular job or own company. And I think that earning money by a win-win-win deal for me, you and the company that has created a great product is pretty nice.
If you still aren’t convinced, consider this:
Sure, one might be able to get some quick money by recommending a mediocre or bad product. But in the long run it would undermine the trust I have built during these last three years and through hundreds of articles. I am not stupid enough to throw that all away – to throw all those thousands of hours of hard work away – and self-sabotage in such a way.
