"I often realize that there is very little in it for me. Negative thoughts or replaying a negative memory over and over in my mind isn’t helping that much. Sure, you can derive a sort of pleasure – a sort of importance - by feeling like a victim or by hating someone and secretly plotting for some kind of revenge. But really what you are doing is wasting your time and energy."

I love this. Thank you for sharing this article. I feel more positive now!

Yeppers!
I agree with everything that Flora said, and then some ~

* It is entirely possible for any person to be a great teacher of Wisdom, yet not be a *perfect example* of that Wisdom themselves!
We are each a work-in-progress, and will be until we graduate from this existence.

* Nearly every *expert* (in any field) that I've ever read or heard speak, acknowledges learning from and sharing with others - both the fundamentals of their field, and the amazing *new* ideas that come from creative thinking.

* Maybe your favorite mathematician or NASCAR driver has been married six times and has a police record? - Does that diminish *in any way* their mastery of numbers or of driving counter-clockwise? I don't think so. It just reminds us that "on a pedestal" is not a healthy place for a human being to try to live!

Thank you, Hendrik, for keeping on keeping on!
Some will learn, Some will not, Some will realize what they've learned 20 years from now!

Bright Blessings ~

Thanks for sharing these tips from Oprah. What some of your commenters seem to miss is that these tips existed long before Oprah and will work for anyone. Some of the comments reveal misunderstandings:

1. Succeeding with the help of another doesn't require paying that person back. One day you may be the helper. Another day you may be the helpee.

2. The New-Age, Tolle, and other modern wisdom is all centuries old. There must be a reason.

3. When someone is successful it's a sure bet that many will admire them, but some will revile them too. Those who revile the successful among us think that success is not available to them. It's not true. Success comes in many forms and is a bottomless well from which we all may drink.

4. The success principles preached throughout the ages are like electricity. You don't even have to fully understand them in order for them to work for you. But you do have to flip the "on" switch.

5. It doesn't take much effort to find something to criticize in anyone who has earned fame, fortune and success. Their mere visibility makes them easy targets. It's more worthwhile to focus on the good that we can learn from them and focus on it to help enhance our own lives.

Your first point was the most powerful. If we want to enjoy happiness and inner peace for ourselves we must keep our focus on the positive (we all are still working on this.)

A number of your commenters demonstrated how the RAS system works. They found evidence in Oprah's life and work to support what they focused on. Thankfully, their negative comments don't affect Oprah one bit. Sadly, their own lives are diminished for giving in to the envy, sadness and fear they displayed.

CYNDY ---

Be careful w/ your words. Oprah didn't make herself the guru. PEOPLE DID. Oprah didn't put herself at the top of list (financially,inspirationally,celebrity,etc)... PEOPLE DID.

Blame people if you're upset that Oprah means the world to the world... don't criticize her.

Be fair.

Why can't people just STAY POSITIVE, even about Oprah?! (DAVID!!!)

Good God, she's not the freaking Anti-Christ, she's not freaking new-age... she's doing MORE than YOU, I guarantee it, to make this world a better place.

Okay, vent done with...

Thank you for this post - Oprah is one of the most powerful YET most inspiriting people I've ever seen on TV. She's really got it.

She knows God more than a lot of "preachers" I've come to know in my life at the church.

Thank you!
